About Dr. Allegra

Marshall P Allegra MD is a lifelong resident of Monmouth County. He has been in private practice since 1988, entering the orthopaedic practice of his father, Edward C. Allegra MD, a prominent local physician from 1957 until his retirement in 1994.

Dr. Allegra recieved his orthopedic training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, N.J. Dr. Allegra served as the Chief Administrative Resident At University Hospital in Newark where he was the resident in charge of the Orthopedic service of that Level One Trauma Center. He also studied under Dr. Frederick Buechel who developed the LCS knee, which is the premier mobile bearing knee replacement system in use today, reporting 20 year survival rates of 97.5%.

Dr. Allegra performs hip replacement surgery using minimal incision surgery which allows for more rapid recovery after surgery. A single incision of 4 to 6 inches can be used in most cases. Dr. Allegra can discuss the technique in detail in his office.

Dr. Allegra's practice centers around adult reconstructive proceedures and sports related injuries. he has performed over 1000 hip and knee replacement surgeries, utilizing modern techniques of non-cemented fixation and long-lasting bearing surfaces made of metal, ceramic, and mobile bearings.

Dr. Allegra also performs over 100 shoulder and knee arthroscopic proceedures each year, including anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in the knee and rotator cuff repair in the shoulder.

Dr. Allegra also performs other common extremity surgeries such as release of carpal tunnel entrapment in the hand.
